Wines from Château Méaume
Critically Acclaimed from Our Family Vineyard Since 1977
"The deep garnet-purple coloured 2018 Méaume gives up wild blueberries, baked cherries and garrigue scents." - The Wine Advocate (89-91 points)
For nearly five decades, Château Méaume has crafted exceptional Bordeaux wines on our 38-hectare estate in Maransin. Our Merlot-dominant blends express the unique terroir of this historic property, earning recognition from critics including The Wine Advocate, James Suckling, Jeb Dunnuck, and Neal Martin
Our Bordeaux Terroir
COMPOSITION:
90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon
SOIL:
Clay and Limestone
REGION:
Bordeaux , France
AGEING:
Minimum 2 years in the vat
ESTATE:
38 hectares of carefully tended vines
Our vineyard lies just 15 kilometres from the renowned appellations of Pomerol, where clay soils favour Merlot's rich, supple character. This same terroir allows our vines to produce wines of remarkable depth whilst remaining approachable and food-friendly.
Every grape comes from our estate. We harvest, ferment in our own facilities, and age with oak to develop complexity whilst preserving the fruit's natural expression. This is winemaking that respects both tradition and age in the vats.

The Méaume Taste Profile
ON THE NOSE:
Wild blueberries and baked cherries greet you first. As the wine opens, you'll discover hints of cedar and spice from oak aging.
ON THE PALATE:
The Merlot dominance brings velvety tannins and rich plum flavours. Cabernet Franc adds structure and a touch of herbaceousness, whilst Cabernet Sauvignon contributes backbone for aging. The finish is long, with dark fruit and gentle spice lingering pleasantly.
DRINKING WINDOWS:
Our wines are approachable young (2-3 years after vintage) but reward patience. Most vintages develop beautifully over 5-10 years, with the best vintages ageing gracefully for 15+ years.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS:
Decant for 30-60 minutes before serving. Ideal temperature: 16-18°C. Use a large Bordeaux glass to allow the wine to breathe and reveal its complexity.
Our Bordeaux red wine reveals layers of flavour that evolve beautifully with time.

Perfect Pairings from Our Table
Bordeaux is wonderfully versatile at the dining table. Here are our favourite pairings, tested over countless meals at the château:
Classic French Cuisine:
● Magret de canard with cherry gastrique - the wine's fruit notes complement the duck's richness
● Navarin d'agneau (lamb stew) - perfect for cooler evenings
● Aged Comté or Saint-Nectaire cheese - the nuttiness enhances the wine's complexity
Everyday Dining:
● Roast beef with herbs and roasted root vegetables
● Mushroom risotto (the earthiness works beautifully)
● Beef bourguignon or other slow-cooked stews
● Charcuterie boards with pâté and dried sausages
● Numerous vegetarian meals
Special Occasions:
● Rack of lamb with rosemary
● Côte de boeuf for two
● Dark chocolate tart with fleur de sel (for our more mature vintages)
The key is matching the wine's weight to your dish. Our younger vintages suit lighter preparations, whilst our older vintages demand heartier fare that can stand up to their complexity.

Why Château Méaume?
A Family Legacy Since 1978
Alan and Sue Johnson-Hill established Château Méaume's modern winemaking operation in 1978, pioneering sustainable viticulture practices decades before they became industry standard. Today, his nephew Mark and Mark's wife Sandra continue this legacy.
Sustainable from the Start
Our environmental stewardship dates back not just to 1978, but to 1795 when the property first embraced harmonious agricultural practices. Learn about our 230-year sustainability story.
More Than a Winery
We're a working farm with vineyards, forest, pasture, and cattle. When you visit Château Méaume, you experience authentic agritourism - not staged wine tourism. This is real countryside life.
Quality at Accessible Prices
Our wines are affordable. We believe excellent Bordeaux shouldn't require a second mortgage.
Combining Wine & Accommodation
Unlike most Bordeaux producers, we offer overnight stays in our luxury 8-room gîte. Experience multiple days immersed in vineyard life, not just a rushed tasting between château visits.
